Deputies with the Attala County Sheriff’s Office are now wearing body cameras.
Sheriff Tim Nail said the move was a natural progression for the department as many other law enforcement agencies have already made the move to using the cameras.
Nail also said the decision to begin wearing the cameras was made to “protect the citizens and also the deputies and to be used in court evidence.”
In addition to the cameras, another change for the department is the move to 12 hour shifts.
Until recently, deputies had gotten off duty around 1:00 or 2:00 am, and remained on call until 6:00 am. Nail says the move to 12-hour shifts was so that the sheriff’s office could provide around the clock service to the community.
Nail said that the 12-hour shifts also result in a better working schedule for the deputies.
