Boswell Media took home seven awards at the 2016 Mississippi-Louisiana Associated Press Broadcast competition Saturday night in Jackson.
AP-member broadcasters and newspapers in both states submitted nearly 2,000 entries in the contests conducted by the Mississippi and Louisiana AP Broadcasters and the Louisiana-Mississippi AP Media Editors.
Honors for Boswell Media include second place finishes in Multimedia Story and Public Affairs Reporting. The news team also finished in third place for Sports Story, Sportscast, Newscast, and Use of Sound.
Breck Riley, News Director for WLIN-FM and Breezynews.com, was also honored as the AP Radio News Person of the Year.
This year’s banquet and contest was the first to include broadcasters and print media from Louisiana.
“Winning six AP awards this year was awesome for our stations,” said President Johnny Boswell. “We were competing head-to-head with stations like WWL in New Orleans. I can only say ‘thank you’ to our dedicated news team. You played way above your league and you won.”
The awards honored exemplary journalistic work published and broadcast in 2016.
